A Thoughtful Place to Begin
It’s natural to have questions when considering therapy for your child.
Below are some of the most common ones we hear from parents and caregivers.
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
You don’t need to wait until things feel severe or unmanageable. Often, parents reach out when they notice shifts—emotionally, behaviorally, or relationally—that don’t quite resolve on their own. You might be sensing that something feels “off,” even if you can’t fully name it. That instinct is worth paying attention to.
Therapy can offer support not only in times of crisis, but also during periods of transition, growth, or increased sensitivity.
What if my child doesn’t want to come to therapy?
This is very common—especially for older children and teens.
We approach this gently and collaboratively, without forcing or pushing.
Building trust takes time, and we meet your child at their own pace.
Often, once a sense of safety is established, children and teens begin to engage more naturally in the process.
Will I be involved in my child’s therapy?
Yes—your involvement is an important part of the process.
Depending on your child’s age and needs, this may include:
Parent consultation sessions
Check-ins to share observations and progress
Guidance and tools to support your child at home
For adolescents, we also balance this with their need for privacy and autonomy, creating a space where they feel safe to open up.
What does therapy look like for children?
Therapy with children often looks different than traditional “talk therapy.”
Sessions may include:
Play, art, and creative expression
Movement and body-based awareness
Gentle conversation and storytelling
These approaches help children express and process emotions in ways that feel natural and accessible to them.
How long does therapy take?
Every child and family is different.
Some children benefit from short-term support around a specific transition, while others engage in longer-term work for deeper emotional or relational healing.
We move at a pace that feels supportive—not rushed—and regularly check in with you about progress and goals.
What if I’m not sure what’s going on with my child?
You don’t need to have a clear answer before reaching out. Part of the process is helping you better understand what your child may be experiencing—emotionally, developmentally, and relationally. We begin with curiosity, not assumptions.
How do you support parents?
Supporting your child also means supporting you.
We offer space to:
Talk through challenges you’re facing as a parent
Understand your child’s behaviors through a new lens
Learn tools for co-regulation and communication
Feel less alone in navigating difficult moments
Parenting can be complex and demanding—this is a place where you are supported, too.
What if my child is going through a major life transition?
Transitions—such as divorce, relocation, a new school, or changes in the family—can have a meaningful impact on children.
Therapy offers a steady, supportive space where these experiences can be processed, helping your child feel more grounded and secure as they adjust.
